Law enforcement shot and killed a heavily-armed gunman who started shooting yesterday outside a Federal courthouse in Dallas. No one other than the gunman himself was killed in the incident. Rockland Congresswoman Nita Lowey told “The Morning Show” last week she thinks the government can do more to prevent the nearly 40,000 lives lost each year to gun violence in the United States…

Lowey says 50 million dollars will be used to study the gun violence issue. 22-year-old Brian Isaack Clyde of Fort Worth was a private first class and served as an infantryman from August 2015 to February 2017. There’s no word yet on his motive.

An unidentified man was killed in Park Ridge, New Jersey, after he was
struck by a train at the height of the morning commute yesterday. Service
on the Pascack Valley line was suspended after the man was struck around
7:25. The 1612 train bound for Secaucus had left Spring Valley around 15
minutes earlier with about 180 customers and crew on board. New Jersey
Transit police are investigating the incident.

The old receiver of taxes office in Clarkstown Town hall has been
converted into a new Veterans Center Satellite. Vet Centers provide
community-based counseling for a wide range of free social and
psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling,
outreach and referral to care. Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann says
you don’t have be a town resident to use their services…

The center is currently open two days a week. Clients are seen by
appointment only. Veterans who are interested should call the White Plains
Vet Center at 914-682-6250 for appointments or for more information. 

Not-for-profits will be able to get space at the Robert Yeager Health
Complex in Pomona under a new law being worked on by the Rockland County
legislature and the county executive. Ed Day says the move will help
transform the Pomona complex into a modern, professional human services
hub, a convenient “one-stop-shop” for Rockland residents...

 The concept became possible after an interested buyer fell through. 

New York State will be letting illegal immigrants get driver’s licenses.
The governor last night signed legislation, after the measure narrowly
passed the Senate by a 33-29 vote. There was some last-minute concern the
federal government could use the law to create a database and track down
undocumented immigrants. Attorney General Tish James said the bill is
legally sound and contains protections for those who apply for a license.
The law goes into effect in December.
