Stony Point attorney Michael Diederich got enough signatures last week
after a final push to get on the ballot as an independent candidate for
District Attorney. Diederich is particularly concerned about private
schools that do not meet state education standards…

Diederich will be on the "Serve Rockland" ballot line in the Nov. 6
election. Retired Judge Victor Alfieri won a court appeal putting him on
the June Democratic primary ballot. Former Judge Tom Walsh, former
prosecutor Patricia Gunning and Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski are also vying
for the Democratic nod for D-A.

Stony Point residents are probably familiar with Lowland Park…it’s named
after Charles Eccher, the town’s first Recreation Department director who
passed away last weekend. Supervisor Jim Monaghan says Eccher worked for
the town for more than half a century…

Monaghan says Tuesday’s town board meeting opened and closed in Eccher’s
honor.

If you’re driving on Western Highway between Clarkstown and Orangetown
you’re being asked to be extra cautious for the next few weeks, to help
save the area’s turtle population. Every year, turtles journey from the
nearby Hackensack River across Western Highway to lay eggs, and motorists
don’t always see them in time. Using a $1,000 grant from Suez New York,
Director of External Affairs Bill Madden says volunteers have constructed
temporary fencing to try to keep the turtles from crossing the street, but
sometimes they're determined to get where they want to go…

The area is marked by flashing hazard signs and yellow “Turtle Crossing”
signs as well, and there’s almost always a volunteer standing there
cautioning motorists to slow down.

The Sixth Annual Nanuet Street Fair is coming to downtown, where else,
Main Street in Nanuet on Sunday. Risa Hoag is the president of the Nanuet
Chamber of Commerce, and says there’s plenty of activities for kids of all
ages…

The fair runs Sunday from 10 to five, rain or shine. There’s free parking

Under the Stars” in the town of Haverstraw. Supervisor Howard Phillips
says it’s tonight outside of Babe’s Restaurant on Railroad Avenue in West
Haverstraw…

Proceeds from the 16th annual North Rockland Community 5K RUN/WALK benefit
three North Rocklanders -- Sofia Flores, Jelien Ramos and Ryan Gaynor. It
begins Sunday morning at 9, registration starts at 7 at Bowline Park in
