RBA Opposes Golf Tax Proposal in NYS Senate
A bill pending in a New York State Senate committee is being strongly
opposed by the Rockland Business Association. The bill would allow
municipalities to collect added property taxes from golf courses on a rate
based on their “highest and best use,” such as residential housing, rather
than as a golf course. RBA CEO Al Samuels calls it bad public policy…
Samuels says the county has four private golf clubs that could face
extinction if the bill gets passed. The bill is supported by Rockland
state senator David Carlucci and Westchester’s Sandy Galef. It’s been
suggested the move is in response to Donald Trump’s attempts, before he
became president, to cut the property taxes that the Trump Organization
pays at his course in Briarcliff Manor in Westchester.
