A Spring Valley man was convicted yesterday in Rockland County Court in the fatal stabbing of another man outside a bar in the village on Johnson Street near North Myrtle Avenue in December 2022. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh says Oscar Garcia-Garcia stabbed 54-year-old Luis Pindiusaca-Villa in the throat with a kitchen knife…
A second man, 42 year-old Eustaquio Diaz-Gutierrez, was convicted of third-degree assault on Friday in a non-jury trial in the same incident. Garcia-Garcia faces a prison term of 15 to 25 years to life when he is sentenced in June. It’s not known when Diaz-Gutierrez will be sentenced or what his sentence could be.

A woman was rescued Friday night after reportedly falling 20 feet off the Torne Valley Hiking Trail between Bear Mountain and Harriman State Parks in Rockland Friday night. The Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps posted on social media that they and other first responders were called around 6pm and found the 40-year-old with a compound fracture and in severe pain. Their Special Operations Unit responded with a rescue Gator apparatus, administered fentanyl to help manage her pain, and brought her out of the woods so she could be taken to Hackensack Hospital for further treatment. The rescue took three hours.

The town of Clarkstown is celebrating the 234th anniversary of its founding with several events this year. The town was founded March 18th, 1791. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says the events will also celebrate American history…
Hoehmann says there will be lots of stuff to do, and none of it involves modern contraptions like cell phones…
This event will be held in mid-April. Details on the overnight are still to come, space will be limited for that but the daytime activities will be open to everyone.

Rockland’s Sheriff is looking to beef up a local database of video cameras so that evidence can more efficiently be gathered in case of a crime. The “Project Community Eyes” program in the real-time crime center helps save time for police when they need video from a business or homeowner, if a crime is committed near their cameras, which have been voluntarily registered as part of the database…
Falco says homeowners have been more responsive to the program than local businesses. He is hoping to work with the Rockland Business Association to increase corporate participation in the program.
