The Orangetown Highway Department is hosting its 23rd Annual Open House tomorrow from 10 to noon. You can tour the facility on Route 303 in Orangeburg, watch equipment demos and more. The first 50 kids get a free t-shirt. And the Gran Fondo bike race from the George Washington Bridge to Bear Mountain and back, perhaps best remembered for taking over the Palisades Parkway a few years ago, hits the county on Sunday, and it’ll cut right through Orangetown, says supervisor Chris Day…

The racecourse will touch parts of Clarkstown, Ramapo and North Rockland as well, so be on the lookout for the cyclists…and check out gfny.com to see what roads are impacted. Sunday is the second annual Family Fun Day and Tricky Tray event to benefit Harper Smiles, named for a three year-old girl who was killed when furniture she was climbing on fell on her. Harper’s grandfather, Sandy Fried formerly of the Spring Valley Tire Warehouse, says the event helps raise funds and awareness of furniture and safety issues…

Two Rockland town supervisors are hoping the state can take a look at
improving safety issues on two New York roadways. Clarkstown supervisor
George Hoehmann says Routes 303 and 304 in his town, where there have been nine fatalities in the last few years, need lots of work…

in his town, Route 303 is among those that could use some improvement…

Among the improvements Clarkstown officials would like to see: more
turning lanes and traffic signals, improved lighting, and better
sidewalks.

The New York State Senate passed legislation yesterday requiring adults to
wear seat belts in the back seats of cars, including Uber and Lyft. State
Senator David Carlucci adults not wearing their seat belt in the back seat
would face a $50 fine. The Assembly still needs to pass it and then it’s
off to the governor’s desk.
