A Chestnut Ridge church looking to convert a vacant single-family home in New City on Route 304 into a satellite location will not be on tonight’s Clarkstown Zoning board agenda as originally expected. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says local law requires the group to go through the planning board and environmental review first. It’s not clear what the property owners are going to do next. The property is owned by Gibson Meeting Halls, and affiliated with the Foster Church, a non-denominational Christian church in Chestnut Ridge.

Rockland D.A. Race Changes Slightly
The Rockland race for District Attorney has been shaken up a little. Retired Judge Victor Alfieri lost a ballot spot after a dispute over required signatures. He’s expected to appeal. Former prosecutor Patricia Gunning survived a challenge to her signatures. Attorney Michael Diederich dropped out of the June Democratic primary and will seek a third-party line in the November 5th election.
NYPD Officer from Orangetown Dies of 9/11 Illness
A lifelong Orangetown resident and NYPD officer who died of cancer related to the September 11th terrorist attacks is being buried today. Patrick McGovern died Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:45 AM today at St. Margaret’s in Pearl River. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont. He was 43.
Metro-North to Move Train Engineers to West-of-Hudson Lines
Metro-North and its union, the Association of Commuter Rail Employees, reportedly agreed to bring reserve locomotive engineers to west-of-Hudson rail service to cut down on cancelled trains that have frustrated commuters for years. The Journal News first reported the deal late last week, which said six engineers would be moved to regular shifts on the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines in the near future. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says the deal is good for Rockland commuters, but it’s not nearly enough…

Chestnut Ridge CUPON Meeting Being Held Tuesday Night
