The town of Clarkstown and Rockland volunteer relief organizations have established a fund for the 30 people who lost their homes in a fire earlier this month in Valley Cottage. At a press conference yesterday at the Mountain View condos, Dana Treacy, who heads up the United Way of Rockland and works with the Rockland County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, or VOAD, said a Disaster Fund is now available to accept donations. Treacy said the resources for the fire’s victims are needed now, and in the future…

Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann said there were no serious injuries in the fire, and all have found temporary housing…

Clarkstown legislator Harriet Cornell praised the first responders and volunteers who helped keep the tragedy from getting out of hand…

Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern is now reportedly banning any kids under the age of 18, regardless of their vaccination history, from visiting the hospital. Kids that need to be admitted for medical purposes are allowed.

Three Hudson Valley Boy Scout leaders, including one from the 1960s in Suffern, and 7,000 others have been accused by a law firm of sexually abusing kids. The firm said there could be as many as 12,000 victims. Some of the information comes from the Boy Scouts’ own files dating all the way back to the 1940s. The Boy Scouts of America apologized and said “nothing is more important than the safety and protection of children in Scouting.”

The future of a dormant North Rockland quarry will be the topic of discussion tomorrow morning. The Tilcon Reclamation project proposed by the company “Hudson River Resources” is hosting a breakfast with the North Rockland Chamber of Commerce to explain how they plan to fill in the site with recycled material over the next 20 years or so and turn it into green space. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan says the plan would need DEC approval to move forward…

A three year-old Monsey boy in Israel for Passover was killed after being struck by a bus near Jerusalem. Yeshiva World reports Baruch Eisenberg apparently darted off a sidewalk and into the path of the oncoming bus yesterday afternoon. Attempts at CPR failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
