After a slight hiccup, construction on a new supermarket slated for Nanuet is picking up again. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says despite a delay at the site of the old Route 59 Pathmark, Aldi is back on track to open by the end of the year…

In other retail news, Ocean State Job Lot recently opened its second Clarkstown location, the new one in the former Toys R Us on Route 59 in Nanuet, and Bob’s Furniture has opened a new, larger store nearby in the Kohl’s shopping center where Babies R Us was. An auto parts store is slated to go where Bob’s moved from by the Route 59 Home Depot. Members of the New York Assembly and Senate met for a panel discussion to review their priorities at the Rockland Business Association’s monthly luncheon last week in New City. Western Ramapo and Orange County Assemblyman Karl Brabanec said he wants to make the business climate better in New York State…

Stony Point and Orange County Assemblyman Colin Schmitt told the crowd at the Paramount Country Club that as a member of the housing committee, he’s looking forward to working on a state-wide rent control bill …

The governor spent part of Earth Day yesterday touting the state’s new plastic bag ban. Governor Andrew Cuomo said New Yorkers use 23 billion plastic bags a year, and that’s got to change…

While it’s a good start, the executive director of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater in Kingston, Greg Williams, points out that there still is a lot of work to be done to cut down or eliminate plastic waste in the environment.

The ban is slated to begin next March and would forbid stores from providing customers single-use, non-biodegradable plastic bags. There are exemptions though, including restaurant food takeout bags, deli or meat counter wraps, newspaper bags, dry-cleaning garment bags and trash bags sold in bulk.

A state appellate panel on Friday declined to reinstate Rockland’s emergency declaration over the measles outbreak. Acting state Supreme Court Judge Rolf Thorsen had ruled the state of emergency invalid because the outbreak didn’t rise to the level of epidemic or disaster. Rockland County Executive Ed Day and the health department have since gone another route to help keep the measles at bay, but he feels the legal system in this case is wrong…

194 cases of measles have been confirmed in Rockland since the outbreak began last October when travelers from Israel came to the county. There have been about 40 cases discovered since the state of emergency was lifted earlier this month.

Ramapo police are looking for leads in a possible shooting in Hillburn last week. No one was hurt in the incident on Tuesday. Supervisor Michael Specht told “The Morning Show” Friday police were looking for suspects…
