Rockland’s County Executive vehemently opposes a judge’s decision to lift the state of emergency to contain the measles outbreak and he says he and his administration can’t wait for the process to work its way through the courts. Ramapo’s supervisor is hoping a $400,000 grant from the state can make some areas of town safer for motorists and pedestrians. Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht says the town is making recommended changes from a report done recently by a traffic consultant…

The stretch of Route 202 near Spook Rock Road where there was a fatal 3-car accident last week will not be part of that project, as 202 is a state road. A 54 year-old Pomona man died in that accident.

The Ramapo Police Department is looking for people who may have fallen victim to a man claiming to be a cab driver and exchanging phony $100 bills for change. Police say they saw several counterfeit $100 bills in his car. He would reportedly approach people and ask for change of a hundred. The Ramapo Police Detective Bureau is asking anyone who may have been a victim to contact them at 845-357-2400.

The head of the NY Chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business told the Albany Business Journal that the state’s new budget does help small business with its property tax cap, and they were also helped when other proposals such as a prevailing wage mandate and an expansion of the bottle deposit bill were dropped during budget negotiations.

A judge Friday struck down Rockland’s March 27th ban on unvaccinated children in public places. Supreme Court Justice Rolf Thorsen ruled the number of measles cases in the county, which at last count was up to 167, did not meet the legal requirement for an emergency order. Rockland County Executive Ed Day said in a statement over the weekend that he and his executive team will be meeting today with legal and health professionals to possibly find new strategies to address the outbreak. Meanwhile, Nyack Montefiore Hospital has contacted 42 people who were exposed to measles at the hospital, including 11 children, four pregnant women and 20 people with unknown vaccination status.
