The Suffern Police Department is looking for the driver and passenger of a dark-colored car, possibly a sedan, that attempted to pick up a child playing near his house on Saturday. Police say the child was walking his dog when a female passenger of the car told him to get in. The child ran away and told his family what happened. Rockland Adds Free Measles Vaccine Clinic
The county is hosting a free measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine clinic in Spring Valley next week. At last count there were 130 cases of the measles in Rockland. The free vaccine clinic is on Wednesday evening, February 13th, from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Martin Luther King Multi-Purpose Center on Bethune Boulevard in Spring Valley.
Rockland County Legislature to Hold Hearing Tonight on New Proposed Human Rights Law
TheRockland County legislature is holding a public hearing tonight on a proposed first-ever Human Rights Law, and an expanded Fair Housing Law. Legislator Alden Wolfe of Ramapo proposed the Human Rights Law, which would bring civil penalties against those who discriminate against people based on their “gender identity and expression” to protect transgender individuals. Proposed amendments to the Fair Housing Law would address discrimination against domestic violence victims, seniors who rely on Social Security to pay their rent, members of the LGBTQ community and veterans. The public hearings get underway tonight at 7 in the Legislature’s Chambers in New City. We were unable to reach Legislator Wolfe for comment.
NJT to Host Listening Forum in Suffern Wednesday
There’s a New Jersey Transit “listening forum” tomorrow night so commuters can register their opinions with senior management in-person about the commuter service. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says it’s important for NJT officials to hear from area riders…
NJ Transit says the feedback gathered at the forum is part of a program to improve the customer experience. The hearing is being held tomorrow night at 5:30 at the Vincent Crotty Memorial Foundation, formerly the VFW, at 16 Ramapo Avenue in Suffern right by the train station.
