A group of parents from the Green Meadow Waldorf School in Chestnut Ridge has filed a lawsuit against the county claiming the emergency order declared due to the measles outbreak was an overreach by the county executive. According to the Journal News, the families claim the emergency declaration was meant to be reserved for catastrophes or other single events, not a health situation. The Rockland County attorney has said the county was within its authority to declare a state of emergency. The number of confirmed measles cases in Rockland is now up to 161.

Nanuet Getting New School District Superintendent
Nanuet is getting a new school district superintendent. Dr. Kevin McCahill will start in his new job in July with a three-year contract that’s expected to be approved by the school board later this month. Superintendent Dr. Mark McNeill recently retired after 26 years with the district. McCahill is currently Nanuet’s Assistant Superintendent and Director of Teaching and Innovation. He’s also served as the principal of Nanuet’s George W. Miller Elementary School.
O&R Makes $20,000 Donation to Robotics Programs at Four Area High Schools
O&R has given $5,000 to robotics programs at each of four area high schools. Students from Clarkstown North and South, Nanuet and Tappan Zee were among 46 local and international robotics teams involved in a competition last month at RCC. Orangetown Supervisor to Not Seek Re-Election; Blames Poor Relationship with Father, Rockland’s County Executive
Orangetown’s supervisor has decided not to run for re-election and is giving up politics to go back into the private sector. Supervisor Chris Day, whose father is county executive Ed Day, held a press conference yesterday and cited stress and a strained relationship with his father for the past few years as his reasons for ending his political career. Personal issues came to the forefront on social media over the past few days. Supervisor Day had been slated to run for re-election this November. He won his first term as Orangetown supervisor in 2017.
