The town of Orangetown is looking for an operator for the batting cages that have been idle at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Orangeburg. Supervisor Chris Day says the town has put out a Request for Proposal to see if anyone wants to run the cages rent-free…

Ramapo’s former Building Inspector has reportedly been removed as the top aide to the Mayor of Spring Valley, this after the Rockland Personnel Department rejected his job application due to his felony conviction. The Journal News reported Anthony Mallia may still be re-hired by Mayor Alan Simon as an independent contractor despite the county’s decision. Simon originally hired Mallia in January last year following his guilty plea the previous summer to charges of undercharging contractors for permits and bilking taxpayers of $150,000.

Retired State Supreme Court Judge Thomas Walsh says the criminal justice system works best when communities work together…
In addition to Walsh, other candidates in the Democratic primary in June include Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, former prosecutor Patricia Gunning, former assistant D-A and assistant public defender Victor Alfieri, and retired U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps attorney Michael Diederich. Cycling enthusiasts are hoping to get a pedestrian-bike path to help them enjoy the entire 18-mile length of Seven Lakes Drive between Sloatsburg and Bear Mountain. The road in Harriman State Park is interrupted by the Route 6 traffic circle, which is off-limits to pedestrians and cyclists. Mike Benowitz of the Rockland Bicycling Club says a bypass would encourage runners, cyclists and hikers to enjoy the area’s beauty even more…
The Palisades Interstate Park Commission has asked the State DOT to put aside $3.1 million to help build the Palisades Trailway Bike Connector.
