The failure of the Rockland County legislature to formally approve the county executive’s pick to head the Consumer Protection Department has the county executive steamed. Ed Day says though he didn’t have to do it, he gave the legislature the chance to approve former U.S. Marshal Jim Elcik for the post. Day told “The Morning Show” Friday that members of the so-called “Ramapo Bloc” ruined what should have been a celebratory moment for Elcik and his family…

Day says Elcik has the job regardless of the legislature’s vote and he doesn’t need to come up for a re-vote. 

Nyack College will remain in Rockland, providing undergraduate classes and student housing for the fall semester this year. Though the college announced last year they would be moving after the spring semester to the city, Nyack College president Michael Scales said in a statement on the school’s website that student housing planned for Jersey City isn’t ready yet. South Nyack Mayor Bonnie Christian says she and other local leaders continue to look for others to take over the land once Nyack College leaves… 

Orangetown supervisor Chris Day says the college and other areas in town have gotten some interest from companies looking to relocate there…

The delay in the Nyack College move only affects resident undergraduate students. All graduate programs, including the Alliance Theological Seminary, will move to the city as planned next semester.

Expect some traffic delays in Suffern this afternoon as O&R moves two new 200-ton electrical transformers to its substation in Hillburn. O&R spokesman Mike Donovan says the nearly six million dollar transformers are critical to keeping O&R’s electric transmission system humming along smoothly…

Thirteen Republicans joined with Democrats in passing a resolution to overturn the president’s emergency declaration to access funds for wall construction at the U.S. southern border yesterday. The vote was 245-182. Rockland Congresswoman Nita Lowey, a Democrat, called the president’s emergency declaration end run around Congress. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated the bill will come up for a vote on the Senate floor before the mid-March recess.

A wake and funeral services are being held Thursday for the Stony Point mom run down in front of the Garnerville 7-Eleven while protecting her kids. Visitation will be held for 32 year-old Melissa DeLoatch from 9 to 11am Thursday at St. Ann’s Church in Nyack, with funeral services to follow. 35 year-old Jason Mendez of Washingtonville allegedly got into a dispute with Melissa’s husband over smoking in front of their kids. Police say Mendez drove his car into the family as they stood in front of the convenience store, backed up, and ran over them again. Shawn DeLoatch and their children were hospitalized but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
