There were four contested village elections yesterday – they were in Airmont, Chestnut Ridge, Hillburn and Pomona. Airmont mayor and trustee results were not yet officially available, but social media suggested newcomers Nathan Bubel and his running mates Brian Downey and Migdalia Pesante are the winners. In Chestnut Ridge, incumbents Paul Van Alstyne and Grant Valentine won their trustee seats. Joseph Tursi won the Hillburn mayor’s spot from incumbent Craig Flanagan Jr. Bernadette Tarantino took a Hillburn trustee seat. Ian Banks won for Pomona mayor, and Ilan Fuchs and Carol McFarlane won for Pomona trustee. There were uncontested races in Grand View-on-Hudson, Kaser, Montebello, New Square and Upper Nyack.

Piermont Police Investigating Death in Downtown Piermont
The Piermont Police Department is investigating a death that occurred yesterday afternoon in a vehicle in downtown Piermont. One published report suggested a shooting was involved, but that has not been confirmed. Orangetown Supervisor Chris Day says it appears there was no criminal action and the community is not in any danger. No additional information was available.
BOCES Student Arrested after Stabbing Another Student with Scissors
An argument at Rockland BOCES between two students who had just gotten off the school bus before school began led to a 16 year-old needing medical attention and a 17 year-old suspected of stabbing him. Clarkstown Police Detective Peter Walker says the assault happened around 8 o-clock Monday morning…
The Clarkstown School Resource Officer assigned to BOCES interviewed the victim and suspect who were still both on scene. He faces assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon charges. Police believe this was an incident between the two students. Other children and the staff were not in any danger. A BOCES spokesman could not be reached for comment.
Scarsdale Man Due in Piermont Court on Gun Charges
A Scarsdale man was due back in Piermont court today after being arrested Thursday with a loaded gun and extra ammunition. Piermont police say 23 year-old Patrick Baker was stopped after he was seen driving on Route 9W erratically. Police say he did not comply with officers’ instructions while standing outside his car during the traffic stop.
