The scientist who coined the term “Global Warming” and did most of his studying right here in Rockland County died Monday. Broecker’s ideas were taken up and wildly exaggerated in the 2004 movie The Day After Tomorrow. They were more credibly explained in possibly the only pop song about physical oceanography, “Uncle Wally’s Tale,” by Broecker’s brother-in-law Tom Chapin, Harry Chapin’s brother. Broecker was 87.
