Forever 21 Store in Palisades Center Starts Liquidation Sales as Company Files for Bankruptcy Again

Nothing lasts forever. A West Nyack clothing store is now holding liquidation sales as its company has filed bankruptcy for the second time. Forever 21, which has a store in Palisades Center, first filed for bankruptcy protection in 2019, announcing Sunday it would wind down U.S. operations. While Forever 21 could find another partner to save it, WRCR market analyst Ken Mahoney of Mahoney Asset Management says that’s not likely to happen…

Forever 21 was founded in 1984 and expanded at a time when consumers were moving to online shopping.

Former Rockland Representative in the House, Nita Lowey, Dies at 87

Rockland’s former Representative in the House, Nita Lowey, has died. The Associated Press reported the first woman to chair the powerful House Appropriations Committee, passed away Saturday peacefully in her home in Harrison, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. She had been battling metastatic breast cancer. She was first elected to Congress in 1988 and served until she retired instead of seeking re-election in 2020. Lowey took to the House floor in September 2019 to speak passionately about the terror attacks on our country on its then 18th anniversary…

In December 2020, she once again took to the House floor to deliver her farewell remarks…

During her years in the House, Lowey pushed for federal funding to combat AIDS and for economic aid to developing nations. New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who served with Lowey in Congress, ordered flags flown at half-staff through the end of the day today. Rockland County Executive Ed Day did the same here in the county, calling Lowey “a champion” with whom he had the privilege to work. Hudson Valley Congressman Mike Lawler praised Lowey’s “bipartisan spirit, commitment to our community, and dedication to the country.” A private funeral, burial and memorial service will be held at a later date. Lowey was 87.

Rocklanders Mark St. Patrick’s Day, Gear up for Pearl River Parade Sunday

Today is St. Patrick’s Day, but those of us in Rockland know it won’t be “official” until the Rockland County Ancient Order of Hibernians’ Pearl River Parade gets underway on Sunday. Pearl River’s Chuck Parnow was named 2025’s Hibernian of the Year, and former Assemblyman John McGowan is the parade’s Grand Marshall. Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny will be marching in the parade, as she’s done for many years…

The parade kicks off Sunday afternoon March 23rd at 1:30, rain or shine. It starts in the Pfizer parking lot, turns east onto East Crooked Hill Road, then goes south on Middletown Road, right onto East Central Ave, then ending at the Post Office on Main Street. Today’s 264th annual New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade steps off at 11am. It starts at 44th Street, passes by St. Patrick’s Cathedral between 50th and 51st streets, and ends at 79th Street on the East Side of Central Park.

NYSP Get Aggressive with DWI Checkpoints for St. Patrick’s Day; Montvale Woman Charged with DWI in Clarkstown

To combat drunk and impaired driving today for St. Patrick’s Day, New York State Police have added DWI patrols and sobriety checkpoints, and they’ll also be ticketing distracted drivers who are using cell phones. There will also be more aggressive underage drinking and unlawful sales to minors operations. Last year, State Police say they arrested 132 people for DWI, issued 124 tickets for distracted driving and 5,576 tickets in total. Drunk driving kills around 11,000 people each year in the U.S.

Montvale Woman Charged with DWI in Clarkstown
A Montvale woman is due in Clarkstown Court next week after being accused of driving drunk on the Palisades Parkway with a child in her car. That’s according to DailyVoice.com. Police said 39 year-old Gina Jenkins was reportedly stopped for traffic violations in Clarkstown earlier this month with a blood alcohol content of .16, twice the legal limit. She was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI with a child, a felony under Leandra’s Law, and released until her court date.

Dems Join with GOP to Pass Spending Plan, Avoid Government Shutdown

Democrats in the Senate voted with Republicans Friday to avoid a government shutdown. Progressives in the House weren’t happy about Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and nine other Democrats joining with the GOP to pave the way for passage of the stopgap spending bill, while President Trump congratulated Schumer on social media, calling his vote a “really good and smart move.” WRCR market analyst Connor Mahoney of Mahoney Asset Management says the vote isn’t worrying Wall Street, as other issues, such as tariffs…
