Bernard Rosenfeld, the mayor of the village of Kaser, died Sunday. Rosenfeld had served as Kaser’s mayor since its founding in 1990. Several Rockland County legislators attended Rosenfeld’s funeral Monday. Ramapo Legislator Aron Wieder called Rosenfeld a “smart, refined and genuinely nice person.” Minority Leader, Lon Hofstein, said Rosenfeld “was a highly respected man who dedicated his life to serving the people.” County Executive Ed Day said Rosenfeld worked tirelessly for the people of Kaser. He was 71.

Minimum Wage Rises in Hudson Valley
The minimum wage increased Monday here in the Hudson Valley to $11.10 an hour, in Westchester it’s now $12 an hour. Wages will go up in various sections of the state over the next few years until they reach $15 an hour, which it now is for large New York City-based companies. The governor also vetoed a bill last week that would have expanded bereavement periods in the family leave bill that passed last year. Al Samuels , who heads the Rockland Business Association, says the bereavement expansion was poorly defined…
The bill has bipartisan support in the state Legislature. The Assembly passed it 111-32, and the state Senate was nearly unanimous, supporting it 61-1.
Two Die in Boating Accident in Westchester
Two men died in a boating accident Sunday night in Goldens Bridge. Lohud.com said a fisherman had found a boat capsized on Muscoot Reservoir early Monday morning. Published reports identified the men as 48 year-old Ngan We Kong of Brooklyn and 47 year-old Weitao Ma of Staten Island. State police said they believe the two were out fishing about twelve hours earlier when the accident occurred.
NYS is Losing Population, but in Rockland, Homes Continue to Sell
Rockland County and New York State may be losing population but there is no shortage of houses, with more new ones constantly on the way. That’s the word from WRCR’s resident real estate expert, Naomi Streicher of Realty Teams in Pomona. Streicher says houses continue to sell, though there may be less spending along with fewer people…
A recent report by the U.S. Census Bureau found New York is one of nine states in the country that’s losing population, and New York’s population is declining faster than any other state.

Expansion Plans Still on the Table for Stony Point Library
The Stony Point Library’s budget got an increase from the town for 2019, its first boost in a decade. The East Main Street property that the Rose Memorial Library had bought for a possible expansion isn’t working out, but they may get an adjoining property, formerly the ambulance corps. But Stony Point Supervisor Jim Monaghan says the costs are way too high at this time…
Voters turned down a measure 14 months ago that would have cost each Stony Point household around $60 each.
