Rockland Community College is hosting a “Career & Resource Fair” today from 11am to 3pm. The free event features more than sixty companies with openings for part-time, full-time, and entry-level professional positions. Companies there represent various industries, including manufacturing, business, health, technology, homeland security, and more. It’s being held today from 11-3 at the RCC Fieldhouse.

Spring Valley Man Convicted of Rape and Burglary, to be Sentenced in June
A Spring Valley man convicted of three violent felonies yesterday faces 25 years in prison on each count. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh says 26 year-old Rigoberto Lopez Castro raped a Spring Valley woman twice in September two years ago. Walsh says during one of the incidents Castro held a belt to the victim’s neck and hit her multiple times. He was convicted of two counts of rape and one count of burglary. He’s being held in the Rockland County Jail awaiting sentencing in June.
Fed Dollars Coming to Fix West Nyack Neighborhood That Often Floods

New Rochelle Man Sentenced for Assault on FBI Officer in Yonkers
A New Rochelle man was sentenced yesterday to nearly 19 years in federal prison following his 2022 conviction of assaulting an FBI Task Force officer. U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, says 27 year-old Darren Smith led Yonkers Police officers after a traffic stop on a car chase, and then eventually he tried to flee on foot. Williams says Smith ran through crowded downtown Yonkers streets, holding a loaded handgun and refusing multiple law enforcement orders to stop. The FBI Task Force Officer and other officers took Smith to the ground, but he refused to let go of the gun, firing five shots. He also faces five years of supervised release, after time served.
