Rockland County is looking for a new group to run and maintain the Cropsey Farm Market in New City after the dissolution of the Rockland Farm Alliance. The RFA was a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Rockland’s remaining farmland, the largest of which was the Cropsey Community Farm off Little Tor Road. The farm was purchased 18 years ago under the Rockland Open Space Acquisition Program. County Executive Ed Day says they are committed to keeping the 24-acre site operating as both parkland and a working farm…

Cropsey Farm was added to the National Registry of Historic Places by the National Park Service in 2017. 

You may have noticed a large construction project taking place near Palisades Center in West Nyack just off Route 59. Next year it’s expected to be a Jaguar / Range Rover auto dealership. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says they’re building on a piece of land sold to them by the mall owners…

Hoehmann expects it to open next year, along with Chick-Fil-A right up the road in Nanuet. The long-awaited West Nyack Starbucks on Route 304 should be opening in the next few weeks.

December 17th is a big day for some area school districts. The Nanuet Union Free School District will be holding a special Property Purchase Referendum. The vote will decide whether to buy a residential home at 32 Highview Avenue in Nanuet for $577,000. It’s right next door to the Highview Elementary School, and if it passes, the home will be converted into a “reimagined outdoor education space and learning commons” designed for students in the 3rd and 4th grades. The district says they do not expect the project to add any cost to taxpayers. The vote is being held Tuesday, December 17th, from 9AM – 7PM at Nanuet Senior High School.

That same day, the South Orangetown Central School District will be holding a special election for one Board of Education seat that was vacated due to a resignation earlier this year. The term ends June 30th, 2027. The Board is still accepting candidates to run for the position. The deadline to apply is next Tuesday December 10th, and the election is Tuesday, December 17th from 7AM to 9PM at four locations within the district.

Orangetown residents raised a big bucket full of money in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge last September. Supervisor Teresa Kenny says lots of people got together at the Splash Pad at Veterans Park in Orangeburg, and raised $26,500 to give to ALS United of Greater New York…

Ten years ago, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge became an internet sensation, with people posting videos on social media dousing each with ice water to promote awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. That summer event raised an estimated $115 million.
