The New York Boulders avoided being swept by the Ottawa Titans yesterday at Clover Stadium in Pomona, because the game was postponed due to the weather. It’ll be made up in July. Suffern Hockey Team Wins Championship, Former North Rockland Track Star Finishes Second in NCAA Championships
The Suffern High School hockey team won the state championship over the weekend in Buffalo. They scored five straight goals to beat Section III’s West Genesee 5-2 in the Division I final…
And that was Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht. The Town of Ramapo and the Village of Suffern are honoring the team’s Championship with a parade tomorrow at 5pm along Lafayette Avenue and ending at the gazebo for a meet-and-greet with the team.
In other local sports news, LOHUD.com says former North Rockland track standout Katelyn Touhey took second-place for North Carolina State in the women’s 5,000-meter at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships Friday in Birmingham, Alabama.
NY Boulders Add Two Pre-Season Charity Games vs. NYPD and NYFD
The New York Boulders will play two benefit pre-season games the first weekend of May as they get ready for the 2022 Frontier League campaign. The Boulders will play the FDNY Bravest on Friday, May 6th, and then on May 7th, they go against the NYPD Finest. Each seven-inning game is free, but you have to reserve a ticket at NYBoulders.com. Proceeds from the FDNY match will benefit the family of Jared Lloyd, the Spring Valley volunteer firefighter who was killed in the Evergreen assisted living facility blaze last year. Proceeds from the NYPD game will go to the families of Detectives Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora, who were killed in the line of duty on Jan. 21st responding to a domestic dispute in Harlem. So, make sure you buy something from the concession stands.
North Rockland Gets New Head Football Coach
North Rockland High School has a new head football coach. The Journal News reports phys ed teacher and offensive coordinator 36 year-old James Hickey, a 2004 North Rockland graduate, takes over the reins. He succeeds the late Tom Lynch, who passed away two months ago due to cancer.
For Third Consecutive Year, NY Boulders to Host NYPD-FDNY Charity Baseball Game
For the third year in a row, the annual NYPD-FDNY baseball game will be hosted by the New York Boulders in Pomona. The “Never Forget Heroes Baseball Classic” will be played September 10th at Clover Stadium, formerly Palisades Credit Union Park and Provident Bank Park. The game is held annually to honor first responders who perished due to the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks. Some of this year’s proceeds will be donated to the families of NYPD Detectives Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora, who were killed during a domestic-violence call in Harlem last month.
