A cidery appears to be scaling back on its plans to operate full-time in the town of Orangetown. Rockland Cider Works on Sickletown Road in Orangeburg has been at the center of controversy, particularly not well-liked by private homeowners who live near the farm site who haven’t been fond of the loud gatherings and excessive traffic in their neighborhood. Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny says the Van Houten Farm Market Benefit Trust has withdrawn their request for the zone change that would allow them to operate the cidery, but there are other, perhaps more acceptable options…
Kenny says they could also sell their cider at retail. Van Houten Farms has argued that they need to evolve and grow if they are going to survive.
