The groundbreaking of a long-awaited project that will help prevent flooding was held in Clarkstown yesterday. The $6.3 million Klein Avenue Levee Improvement Project in West Nyack should provide relief for property owners whose homes were built in the 1950s that tend to flood during heavy rains. Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann says homes in the area of Lodico Lake regularly get up to eight feet of water in their basements…
The bulk of the project is federally funded, Hoehmann said, thanks to the efforts of Senator Chuck Schumer and Rockland Congressman Mondaire Jones…
Rockland Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, who lives nearby, said he’s seen days after large storms when the area was only accessible by boat…
And that was area resident Jane Storms. Money for the project not only comes from the feds, but the state, county and town, and will use the fill that’s currently sitting off the cloverleaf of Routes 59 and 303. It’s expected to take about a year to complete.
