The so-called “Monsey Fire Brigade” has reportedly been responding to fires in the Monsey area and encouraging residents to call them instead of 911. Ramapo and county political leaders and fire officials have been strongly urging residents TO call 911 in any emergency. In December, a Monsey man, an alleged member of the brigade, was arrested and accused of interfering with fire prevention operations at an incident in the village of Kaser. Local state lawmakers are considering making a new law preventing similar groups from forming.
