High atop the Tappan Zee Bridge there is a nest of falcons. They’ve been there for decades, starting with the former Tappan Zee Bridge. Three peregrine falcon chicks were born on Monday. New York State Thruway Authority spokesman Khurram Saeed says they love their home at the top of one of the bridge’s 419-foot towers, the one on the southbound side closest to Westchester. Saeed says kids love the birds as well, and now Rockland and Westchester children in grades 3-6 can enter a contest to name the little falcon chicks…
Sophia Salas of Veolia says Monday’s arrival of the baby birds could not have been timed better…
The contest runs through May 10th. Previous winning names have been Jimmy Falcon, Cardi Beak, Luke Flywalker and Talon Zee. The public can vote for their favorite names starting Wednesday, May 15th. The voting will run until May 22nd. Click here for a web cam that lets you see the falcons 24/7, and that’s the same site where you can vote for the names next month. The Thruway Authority and Veolia will announce the winners by Memorial Day weekend.
