Without much significant rain lately the chance for brushfires is on the rise here in the Northeast. On Friday’s “Who Wants to be a Volunteer” program, Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear said it might be tempting to burn leaves or wood in a backyard firepit, but it can quickly get out of hand, as it almost did in Nanuet last week…
Meanwhile, New York’s governor Friday announced $25 million in grants to help fund the state’s volunteer firefighters. Governor Kathy Hochul says the money will help improve facilities and response capabilities of volunteer firefighting agencies around the state…
The money came from a Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services grant program. Unfortunately, the forecast for this week doesn’t include any rain, so the conditions continue to be favorable for brush fires.
