Testimony in the East Ramapo school board federal voting rights case resumes tomorrow. The Spring Valley rabbi who had failed to show up last week to testify made it to court Thursday for the last full day of testimony. The Journal News says Orthodox Jewish rabbi Yehuda Oshry apologized before taking the stand, then admitted working behind the scenes in several campaigns for Orthodox Jewish board candidates, including collecting signatures. Yesterday the judge reportedly blasted an attorney for the East Ramapo school board and one of their witnesses, whom she deemed not credible. The Spring Valley chapter of the NAACP, with the Civil Liberties Union, is suing the East Ramapo Central School District over its at-large method for electing school board members, claiming it doesn’t fairly represent the community. The judge is expected to issue a decision within a few weeks, after each side gives closing arguments.
