For the second time in two weeks, Rockland high schoolers were involved in a fatal car accident that police officials believe involved alcohol. Clarkstown Police say a 16 year-old Clarkstown North High School boy was killed in a three-car accident on Congers Road in New City, right by the High School. Four others were injured, three of them were taken to area hospitals. The driver of one of the cars, 18 year-old Alan Mendoza has been charged with DWI, Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, and other charges. He was arraigned and taken to the Rockland County Jail awaiting a future court date. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says the school district’s grief counselors are available. The Journal News says school district officials identified the victim as Vladyslav Hvalyk, a junior at Clarkstown North. Visitation for Vladyslav will be held Wednesday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. Funeral Mass will be Thursday morning at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Church in Spring Valley. If you have information on the accident, contact the Clarkstown Police Detective Bureau at 845-639-5840. Suffern High School sophomore Jacqueline Zangrilli was killed in a car crash last month in Montebello. The 17 year-old at the wheel in that accident has been charged with manslaughter, DWI, vehicular manslaughter and other felonies.
