The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office has a new Chief of Detectives. Deirdre Smith has been sworn in as the first woman to serve in that position. She began her law enforcement career in 1993 with the NYPD and spent five years there before joining the Suffern Police Department. She served there for 22 years, retiring as Sergeant. She is a recipient of a Medal of Honor Award for Valor from the Rockland County PBA. She replaces former Chief of Detectives Peter Walker who retired last week.
