The former deputy mayor of the village of Haverstraw who resigned from the Board of Trustees last month, and two relatives have been accused of stealing more than $11,000 from a local nonprofit. Rockland’s D.A. accuses Emily Dominguez, her sister, Janice Dominguez, and her mother, Luz Marina Gutierrez, of taking funds and donations from the Rockland Community Foundation. Emily Dominguez was a board member and former president of the foundation. When she stepped down as Deputy Mayor last month, Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips praised her dedication to, and involvement in, the community…
The three were indicted and charged with felony counts of grand larceny, falsifying business records and criminal possession of a forged instrument. They were released and are due back in court on October 26th. In a statement provided to WRCR, Emily Dominguez said she and her family have been under investigation for nearly a year and she’s given all paperwork to investigators, and she is confident she and her family will be exonerated. She is hopeful the community will stand behind them while they “fight against the ugly, because evil destroys people’s lives for someone’s satisfaction.” We reached out to the Rockland Community Foundation but did not hear back. Dominguez was first elected to the village board in 2006 and made deputy mayor five years ago.
