Former Ramapo supervisor John McAlevey passed away Saturday. That’s according to supervisor Michael Specht. McAlevey served four terms as supervisor from 1966 to 1973 and was a decorated World War Two pilot. Specht said he started the Town Housing Authority, expanded the Town Parks from 23 to 650 acres, and established the Town’s lateral sewers. McAlevey was also Mayor of Sloatsburg and served on the MTA Board. He was predeceased by his wife, Marlene, a former East Ramapo teacher, who died in July 2019.
