A former Spring Valley mayor who was sent to prison in a federal corruption scandal is looking to become mayor again. The New York Post says Noramie Jasmin, who was found guilty in 2015 of mail fraud and extortion and served four years in federal prison, was cleared to run, as state law allows federal convicts to run for office. That’s unfortunate for former Spring Valley Trustee Vilair Fonvil, who also was seeking to run for mayor. Fonvil was convicted of felony state crimes for stealing $11,000 from a village summer camp program, he’s appealing his conviction, but state law forbids those convicted of state felonies from running for office.
