A Suffern funeral home director will spend up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing from clients in pre-paid burial scams. 55 year-old Leonard Scarr of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, owned the Scarr Funeral Home and pleaded guilty last summer to two counts of grand larceny in the third degree, one count of forgery in the second degree, and one count of scheme to defraud. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh says Scarr stole more than $3,000 from two victims. The D.A. and Ramapo Police confirmed 88 victims lost nearly $500,000.00. Proceeds from the sale of the funeral home and property is being paid back to the victims. 64 of the victims decided to have another funeral home take care of the contracts they had originally established with Scarr.
