New York is the newest state to legalize adult-use marijuana. The bill establishes the Office of Cannabis Management to implement a regulatory framework that covers medical, adult-use and cannabinoid hemp. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law yesterday, and it provides licensing for marijuana producers, distributors, and retailers in the pot market. The bill also creates a social and economic equity program to assist those disproportionately affected by marijuana enforcement. The adult-use cannabis program is projected to bring in $350 million annually and add up to 60,000 new jobs across the state. It could be at least a year before sales begin.
