The Middletown drug ring case that nabbed an Orange County fire lieutenant, a former Spring Valley cop and others could be presented to a grand jury tomorrow. Many of the nearly 30 defendants were arraigned Tuesday in Orange County Court. The Times Herald-Record reported bail ranged from $10,000 bond for one woman and up to $3 million bond for top defendants. 48 year-old Paul Smith of Deerpark is accused of using his firehouse in Middletown to operate the drug ring. He was ordered held without bail. 49 year-old John Beltempo of New Windsor, a former member of the Spring Valley Police Department, was also accused of selling cocaine, and 34 year-old Marquis Gamble of Nyack was charged with providing cocaine for others to sell.
