The Haverstraw African American Connection is celebrating Juneteenth this weekend, and the festivities begin tonight. Juneteenth marks the announcement of the abolition of slavery on June 19th, 1865, in Texas, and the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans throughout the Confederacy…
And that was Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips. The celebration begins tonight at 5:30 with a flag raising at Haverstraw Village Hall, then tomorrow from 3-6pm there’s the celebration at the Haverstraw African-American Memorial Park at 41 Clinton Street, and then on Sunday at the same location there’s “Gospel in the Park” from 1-3pm.
