Two events are being held in Haverstraw, one tonight and one tomorrow, to celebrate Juneteenth, now officially a federal holiday. It marks the day that news of liberation came to Texas more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation went into effect in 1863. Tonight at 6pm there will be a flag raising ceremony followed by “Dancing Under the Stars” at Haverstraw Village Hall. Then at 3:30 tomorrow the celebration continues at the Haverstraw African-American Memorial Park on Clinton Street, featuring music, entertainment, food and more.
