The road that was the scene of a fatal hit-and-run late last month needs some enhancements to make it safer. 72 year-old Daniel DeSerio of Pomona crossed Thiells-Mount Ivy Road near the Hillcrest Fire Department around 6:25 in the morning of January 26th when he was fatally struck. Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips says the state’s neglect of Route 202 has caused many drivers to use Thiells-Mount Ivy Road, a county roadway, as an alternate route…
Phillips says a better crosswalk and lighting might be needed for the roadway. Haverstraw Police say DeSerio was struck by two vehicles, with one stopping at the scene. The driver of that car called 911, the other fled southbound. Police found specific vehicle parts at the scene that led them to 25 year-old Rosana Pelaez Dipaolo of Pomona. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, driving with a permanently revoked license, and circumventing an interlock device. She was arraigned in Haverstraw Justice Court and released on her own recognizance.
