While some roads in Haverstraw are at a near stand-still due to on-going construction projects, the town’s police department is looking at motorists who race through a one-mile stretch of Route 202, not far from the police station itself, where people tend to try to make up for lost time. Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips says the police have been ticketing speeders at all times of day and night…
This dangerous area of 202 is between Old County Road and Balsam Road where the roadway is fairly wide. Drivers often pass others there who they think are driving too slowly for the 40 mile-an-hour zone, even though passing is not allowed.
