[UPDATE 5:59pm} Around 2:55 this afternoon, NY State Troopers stopped a vehicle that was identified in a homicide on I-87 in the Town of Ramapo. During the traffic stop, the suspect and sole occupant of the vehicle opened fire on Troopers and Troopers discharged their division-issued firearms striking the subject. The subject is deceased. One Trooper sustained minor injuries and the other Trooper is unharmed. There is currently no threat to the public and the investigation is ongoing. [EARLIER]: New York State Police report I-87 southbound at mile marker 31.5 in Hillburn (Town of Ramapo), near exit 15A, three right lanes are closed due to an active police investigation. Traffic is backed up through Sloatsburg area. Traffic is also heavy on I-287 northbound / Route 17N in Mahwah, NJ.
