Residents of a home in Hillcrest got out of a house fire safely yesterday afternoon. Ramapo Police say there was heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the home on Orchard Street home around 3:10 yesterday. Firefighters from Hillcrest, South Spring Valley, Monsey, Spring Valley, New City and Nanuet battled the blaze. The Red Cross is helping the family find temporary shelter. The fire is under investigation by the Ramapo Police Investigations Division and the Rockland County BCI-Arson Unit. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
