While many across the state are urging the governor to step down in the wake of the Attorney General’s investigative report earlier this month, it looks like the governor is digging in for a long battle. In a press conference yesterday following a meeting of the Assembly’s Judiciary Committee, which is spearheading the Assembly’s investigation, New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said what once might have taken months may now take a few weeks…
But even that may not be fast enough for many who want to see the governor booted from office now. Judiciary Committee chairman, Assemblyman Charles Lavine of Long Island said they’re in no hurry, but are working as fast as possible…
The committee will get two more updates in private, executive sessions next Monday and a week later. There will then be a series of public hearings involving workplace harassment experts and discussion of the state’s impeachment procedures. The judiciary committee is then expected to make a recommendation to the full Assembly on how to proceed to an impeachment vote, if necessary.
