Deacon John Maloney of Nanuet, a former Clarkstown councilman, died last week. Maloney was elected Councilman in 1973, and he held that position for 36 years, the town’s longest-serving Councilman. He was also Deputy Supervisor and Police Commissioner, and served many other roles, including the staff of New York Catholic Charities in 1948, working with street gangs in East Harlem and the South Bronx. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says he made his mark on the town over the years…
Maloney served as Chaplain at the Rockland County jail for 30 years, and was Chaplain of the Nanuet Fire Department for 40 years, and was named Firefighter of the Year in 2015. The Mass of Christian Burial is today at 10:00 am at Saint Anthony’s Parish Church, with interment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. He was 98 years old.
