The measles is on the verge of making a comeback again here in the United States as some cases have popped up in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Delaware, New Jersey and Virginia. The Department of Health there warned travelers of possible exposure at Dulles International and Ronald Reagan National Airports on January 3rd and 4th, but so far nothing’s been detected here in our area. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says he doesn’t want the measles gaining a foothold in the county again like it did five years ago…
There were 312 known cases of measles in the county between October 2018 and August 2019, with the outbreak declared over on September 25th that year. Europe has been particularly hard-hit in the last year. The World Health Organization announced there were 42,200 measles cases in 40 European countries last year, more than 40 times than the year before. For more information about the measles, click here.
