A New Rochelle man was sentenced yesterday to nearly 19 years in federal prison following his 2022 conviction of assaulting an FBI Task Force officer. U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, says 27 year-old Darren Smith led Yonkers Police officers after a traffic stop on a car chase, and then eventually he tried to flee on foot. Williams says Smith ran through crowded downtown Yonkers streets, holding a loaded handgun and refusing multiple law enforcement orders to stop. The FBI Task Force Officer and other officers took Smith to the ground, but he refused to let go of the gun, firing five shots. He also faces five years of supervised release, after time served.
