A New City man faces charges of assault, reckless endangerment, and other crimes for allegedly assaulting a New York State Police trooper during a pro-Palestine rally on a Hudson Valley college campus. State Police say 20 year-old Aiden O’Brien was part of a crowd being dispersed at SUNY New Paltz in Ulster County around 12:13am last Thursday. O’Brien is accused of throwing a metal Gatorade bottle that struck a New York State Police investigator in the face, leaving a cut above his left eye. O’Brien was arrested on Tuesday and arraigned on the charges in Plattekill Town Court. He was sent to the Ulster County Jail on $5,000 cash bail. The Troop F BCI is asking anyone with information to contact the New York State Police at 845-344-5300.
East Ramapo Parents Rally in Albany
A group of East Ramapo School District parents and local activists were in Albany Tuesday to rally for the troubled school district. News 12 reported the New York Civil Liberties Union and others stood with the group, asking for more funding that should be dedicated to the students, their education, and the school buildings that are in bad shape instead of going to the large transportation budget. In a statement, East Ramapo Schools Superintendent Dr. Clarence Ellis said he applauds the parents’ efforts, noting the district is facing the most severe budget challenges it has ever faced. The Board of Education has adopted a budget for the next school year that will be subject to a vote on May 21st.
