The new head of the Nyack school district presided over her first Board of Education meeting last Tuesday since taking over earlier this month. Dr. Lizzette Ruiz-Giovinazzi began serving as the district’s acting superintendent, having previously held the role of assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Former superintendent Susan Yom resigned on June 30th. In a post on the school district’s website, Dr. Ruiz-Giovinazzi acknowledged “district leadership transitions” but stressed they are busy this summer hosting summer programs, proceeding with capital improvement projects and welcoming new staff, while shifting the focus to the new academic year.
West Haverstraw Stop & Shop to Close
The West Haverstraw Stop & Shop is among 32 Northeast supermarkets that the chain is closing by early November. That’s according to Patch.com. There are three other Stop & Shops in Rockland, located in New City, Orangeburg and Nanuet. A location on Route 202 in Pomona closed four years ago. The company said employees at affected stores would be offered other jobs within the company.
