A Texas man was killed last week in Orange County after he crashed onto a tractor trailer that had slowed for construction in a work zone on the New York State Thruway between Harriman and Newburgh on Wednesday. New York State Police say 61 year-old Theodore Johnson was driving a Nissan van around 12:30 in the afternoon when he crashed into a Freightliner tractor. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. The Freightliner driver, 51 year-old Adam Rice of Brick, New Jersey, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Garnerville Gator, Guidry, Gets Going
That alligator that was rescued by Haverstraw Police rescued Thursday in the Minisceongo Creek in Garnerville has a name and will soon have a new home. The Hudson Valley Humane Society of Pomona has been caring for him since he was brought to them Thursday. They said on their Facebook page that he’ll be sent to live at “Reptile Encounters with Marc Perpetua” who runs a reptile educational program in Saugerties. He was examined by an expert from the Bronx Zoo and determined to be in pretty good shape. He has since been named “Guidry.” No word on where the gator came from.
