A portion of Route 303 in Valley Cottage was shut down early yesterday morning after a truck and an SUV collided. The Journal News reported the driver of a box truck and a baby that was a passenger in the car had to be extricated by the Valley Cottage Fire Department. The accident reportedly occurred just before 9am Tuesday morning. Patch.com reported that the 31 year-old driver of the SUV and its passengers, a one year-old girl and three year-old boy, were treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital. The truck driver was also taken to an area hospital. Their injuries are unknown. An accident investigation by the Clarkstown Police Department is underway. Dozens Rally Over Middle East War in New City
Dozens of people came out for two rallies in New City, one by a pro-Palestine group, the other by supporters of Israel. Footage seen on News 12 showed them standing on opposite sides of New Hempstead Road between the county office building and the old Sain Building. The rally was initially planned by the group called “Rockland for Ceasefire” and a response was put together by Israel supporters. “Rockland for Ceasefire” wanted charges against a teen dropped after he was accused of stealing an Israeli flag from Clarkstown town hall. The teen has since reportedly reached a plea deal in family court. There were no reports of any arrests or issues between the two groups.
Nurses Authorize Strike in Hudson Valley
Nurses at Montefiore hospitals in Nyack, New Rochelle and Mount Vernon voted yesterday to authorize a strike after their current contract ends on December 31st. That’s according to the Journal News. Approximately 96% of the union’s nurses reportedly voted in favor of the strike. They’ve reportedly been bargaining since late August, with most of the proposals being rejected.
