A man is in custody following an attack on the Republican candidate for governor of New York as he was giving a speech upstate near Rochester. Reuters reports Congressman Lee Zeldin was unharmed in the attack, and held the man’s wrist, preventing the man from stabbing him in his upper body. Zeldin went on to finish his speech following the incident. Governor Kathy Hochul said on Twitter she was relieved to hear that Zeldin was ok, and condemned the behavior, saying it has no place in New York. Rockland assemblyman Ken Zebrowski said he was “horrified” by the attack and “relieved to hear” Zeldin is safe and uninjured. Rockland assemblyman Mike Lawler said the man should be charged to the fullest extent of the law.
