The New York Thruway Authority has filed a lawsuit accusing the builders of the new Tappan Zee Bridge, Tappan Zee Constructors, of not delivering a bridge to agreed-upon construction standards. In a statement, Thruway Authority spokesperson Jennifer Givner, said while independent experts have confirmed the bridge is safe, there is a dispute over material compliance of several “stay cable anchorage components” that require remediation. Tappan Zee Constructors disagrees with the assessment, and Givner added, has refused to comply with their contract. The Thruway has started to replace the components, but no timetable on the fix has been released. The Thruway Authority is reportedly seeking no less than $1 billion for the repairs.
